Document organization

Understand how SeraCase organizes materials across Evidence, Timeline, Topics, and recommendations.

Overview

After you add documents, Sera helps place them where they’re useful: in Evidence for browsing, on Timeline for chronology, under Topics for themes, and in What Sera Found when action is needed. You stay in control — Sera proposes structure; you confirm what matters.

Why this feature exists

Raw uploads alone don’t prepare a case. Organization turns a folder of files into something you can navigate, explain, and export with confidence.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Add documents to the right case

Confirm your case in the sidebar, then use Add Documents. Organization always stays bound to that case.

  2. 2

    Let Sera finish reviewing

Wait until review completes before judging structure. Partial results can look incomplete mid-process.

  3. 3

    Browse Evidence

Open Evidence to see materials as a library. Open individual items when you need detail.

  4. 4

    Check Timeline and Topics

Timeline shows when things happened. Topics groups related themes so patterns are easier to spot.

  5. 5

    Act on recommendations

Use What Sera Found and Insights to tighten organization — link evidence, fill gaps, or create tasks.

Best practices

  • Review organization after each meaningful batch of uploads, not only at the end.
  • Link key documents to timeline events so the story stays connected.
  • Use Topics to label themes you’ll discuss with counsel (for example, parenting schedule or finances).

Productivity tips

  • After organizing, ask Sera to summarize what changed since your last session.
  • Mark weak or unclear items for follow-up instead of leaving them unlabeled forever.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing unrelated matters in one case, which muddies Topics and Insights.
  • Ignoring duplicate events that make the timeline look busier than it is.
  • Assuming every automatic placement is final — adjust when something looks off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reorganize documents myself?

Yes. You can edit timeline events, link evidence, manage topics, and Move to Trash items that don’t belong. Sera’s structure is a starting point.

Where did my file go after upload?

Check Evidence for the library view, Timeline for date-based placement, and Add Documents for processing status if review is still running.
