Working with Timeline
Build and refine a clear chronology of what happened — dates, events, and the documents that support them.
Overview
Timeline is your case chronology. As you add documents, Sera proposes events with dates when she can identify them. You can edit, reorder, link evidence, merge duplicates, and keep the story accurate as new materials arrive.
Why this feature exists
Courts and counsel think in sequences. A calm, ordered timeline helps you remember what happened and explain it without flipping through every file.
Step-by-step
- 1
Open Timeline for your current case
Select the right case, then open Timeline from the primary navigation.
- 2
Review events Sera proposed
After documents are reviewed, scan new events. Confirm dates, titles, and whether each event belongs.
- 3
Edit or add events
Correct dates, clarify titles, and add events Sera missed — especially deadlines and court appearances you know about.
- 4
Link supporting evidence
Attach documents or evidence items to events so each moment has a clear source.
- 5
Clean as you go
Merge duplicates, cluster related moments when helpful, and Move to Trash events that don’t belong.
Best practices
- Pin or highlight true deadlines as soon as you know them.
- Prefer one clear event over several near-duplicates for the same moment.
- Link the strongest supporting document to each important event.
Productivity tips
- After each upload batch, spend five minutes confirming new timeline dates.
- Use Ask Sera to ask “What are the key dates in this case?” as a second pass.
Common mistakes
- Leaving obvious duplicates untouched until export day.
- Relying only on automatic dates without verifying court-critical ones.
- Adding narrative opinions as if they were dated facts.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Timeline empty?
Add documents first, or create events manually. Sera populates Timeline as she identifies dates during review.
Can I change an event date?
Yes. Edit the event and correct the date. If the source document disagrees, keep the document truth and update the event to match.
Do timeline edits affect my original documents?
No. Editing Timeline organizes how events are presented. Your uploaded files remain in Evidence.
