Uploading documents

Add PDFs, photos, emails, and scans to your case so Sera can organize them into a clear timeline and evidence library.

Overview

Add Documents is how materials enter your case. Upload court orders, correspondence, photos, and other files. Sera reviews readable text where possible, then helps place items on your Timeline and in Evidence.

Why this feature exists

Legal matters generate piles of paper and screenshots. A calm upload path keeps everything in one private place so you can move forward without hunting through folders.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Open Add Documents

From Home or the sidebar, choose Add Documents. Make sure the correct case is selected.

  2. 2

    Choose your files

Drag and drop files onto the page, or browse your device. You can add several files at once.

  3. 3

    Confirm and wait for Sera

After files are added, Sera begins reviewing them. You’ll see progress on Add Documents. Larger PDFs may take longer.

  4. 4

    Check What Sera Found

When review finishes, open Home or What Sera Found for recommended next steps based on the new materials.

  5. 5

    Review Timeline and Evidence

Open Timeline to see dates Sera identified, and Evidence to browse the organized library.

Best practices

  • Upload clearer scans when possible — sharper images help Sera read text accurately.
  • Add documents in batches after key events rather than waiting for a perfect complete set.
  • Use readable filenames before upload when you can (for example, “Parenting-order-2026-03.pdf”).
  • Keep each legal matter in its own case so uploads stay in the right context.

Productivity tips

  • Start with the most important materials — orders, notices, and key correspondence.
  • After a batch upload, spend two minutes on Timeline to confirm major dates look right.
  • Rename camera files (IMG_…) with a short display name so exports stay readable.

Common mistakes

  • Uploading to the wrong case when you have more than one matter open.
  • Assuming blurry phone photos will read as well as a flat scan.
  • Treating Sera’s organization as finished legal advice — always review what she surfaces.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for Sera to review my documents?

Most files begin processing immediately. Small PDFs and photos are often ready within moments. Larger packages may take longer. Progress appears on Add Documents.

Can I upload the same document twice?

Yes, but duplicates can clutter Timeline. If you notice repeats, merge or clean them up using Timeline tools, or Move to Trash items you no longer need.

What happens after documents are added?

Sera reads available text, organizes materials, and may suggest timeline events, topics, tasks, and next steps in What Sera Found.
