Missing documents
Locate files that seem to disappear after upload, case switches, or Move to Trash.
Overview
Documents rarely vanish without a cause. They are usually in another case, still processing, filtered out of the current view, or sitting in Trash during the recovery window.
Why this feature exists
Finding materials quickly reduces stress when you need a specific order or message.
Symptoms
- File uploaded but not visible in Evidence
- Search cannot find a known filename
- Document existed yesterday and is gone today
- Preview link fails
Likely causes
- Wrong case selected
- Upload still processing or failed
- Item moved to Trash
- Filename differs from what you remember
- View filters hiding certain types
Step-by-step
- 1
Confirm the case
Switch cases in the sidebar and check Evidence for each matter you use.
- 2
Check Add Documents history
See whether the batch completed, partially failed, or is still processing.
- 3
Search by keyword and date
Try partial filenames, party names, or approximate upload dates.
- 4
Look in Trash / My Data
Restore items still inside the recovery window.
- 5
Re-upload only if necessary
If the file never landed and is not in Trash, upload again from the original source.
Best practices
- Use clear filenames before Add Documents.
- Avoid duplicate uploads that clutter Evidence.
Productivity tips
- Check Evidence Gaps — sometimes the “missing” piece is a known gap rather than a lost file.
Common mistakes
- Re-uploading repeatedly into the wrong case.
- Skipping Trash before assuming permanent loss.
When to contact support
Contact support if a completed upload is missing from the correct case and Trash, and re-upload of the same source also fails to appear.
