Export failures

Retry and recover when export jobs fail, stall, or produce incomplete downloads.

Overview

Export builds a package as a background job. Failures usually come from interrupted downloads, very large selections, transient processing errors, or trying to export while uploads are still running.

Why this feature exists

Reliable exports matter when you need materials for counsel, hearings, or your own records.

Symptoms

  • Export job marked failed
  • Download never starts
  • Package incomplete or unexpectedly small
  • Retry button needed after a stall

Likely causes

  • Transient server or network error
  • Selection too large for a single attempt on a weak connection
  • Source files still processing
  • Browser blocked the download
  • Session expired during a long job

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Check job status on Export

Open Export and note whether the job failed, is still running, or is ready to download.

  2. 2

    Retry the job

Use retry on the failed export before changing your selection.

  3. 3

    Narrow the package

Export in sections if a full-case package keeps failing on a slow connection.

  4. 4

    Finish uploads first

Wait until Add Documents processing completes so the package includes the latest files.

  5. 5

    Allow downloads in the browser

Disable pop-up or download blockers for SeraCase and try the download link again.

Best practices

  • Keep a milestone export after major document batches.
  • Verify package contents before Move to Trash on source materials.

Productivity tips

  • Pair Export with Lawyer Brief when preparing for a meeting.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a failed job deleted your case files — it did not.
  • Starting a huge export on an unreliable mobile hotspot.

When to contact support

Contact support if retries fail for modest packages after uploads are complete and downloads are allowed in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are my documents safe if export fails?

Yes. Export failures affect the package job, not your stored case materials.
